The HeritageCAVE
The HeritageCAVE Conceptual Framework was developed by Professor Mohamed Gamal Abdelmonem as a rigorous methodology to record, interpret, and interact with historic and archaeological sites across the globe. The framework bridges the gap between raw spatial capture data and meaningful scholarly narratives.
At its core, HeritageCAVE defines four progressive tiers of digital engagement:
- 01Capture: Multi-modal acquisition using laser scanning, photogrammetry, and geophysical survey instruments.
- 02Archive: Semantic data management pipelines connecting point clouds, meshes, and descriptive metadata in open standards.
- 03Visualise: Immersive CAVE (Computer Aided Virtual Environment) rendering, enabling 1:1 scale walkthroughs of reconstructed spaces.
- 04Engage: Public dissemination via web-based virtual tours, museum interactive kiosks, and academic peer-reviewed 3D datasets.
BECAIVE applies this framework across Egyptian heritage sites, from the flooded galleries of the Hawara Labyrinth to open-desert necropolises, building the first openly accessible Virtual Egypt Antiquities Database.
